"If it`s deemed the fire started due to electrical problems..."

Home insurance in terms of fires, do not always cover every type of fire. If you require it to cover particular fires then you need to specify this at the time of signing the contact. Home insurance needs to be so broad and cover so many items. If it`s deemed the fire started due to electrical problems, the only way to argue this point would be to have had an electrical survey done of your home prior to concluding the home insurance. This answer closely relates to:
  • House with electrical problems
    • If i cause an electrical fire at home does my homeowner insurance cover it?
    • Does home owners insurance cover fire caused by faulty electrical work?
    • Does home insurance cover electrical wiring?

Q. My house was damaged by broken pipes because of an electrical problem. besides having to fix it i am losing?
rents. does my insurance cover loss of rent? it is a duplex and it was set up as owner occupied and a rental.

"Broken pipes don't usually damage a house..."

Broken pipes don't usually damage a house, unless someone is swinging them at the walls. BUT. No one here could possibly know if your policy has "loss of rents" coverage. It's an optional coverage on a dwelling fire policy, so it's not "built in". You will have to ask your agent, if you bought coverage for loss of rents. If you did, loss of rents will kick in, if the loss of rents is due to a COVERED LOSS. So if the damage from the broken pipes (vandalism?) is covered under your policy, then the loss of rents kicks in.

Q. Does homeowners insurance cover replacing broken sewer line?
i've had trouble with stopped up sewer line from my house to water main about once a year since moved to house 1997. plumber has been able to temporarily clean out the line each time, but we have come to the point that it must be replaced. it apparently is cracked or broken probably from tree roots. i can't locate anything in policy that states whether the sewer line is considered part of home. i also have been having electrical problems such as flickering lights & some outlets don't work & electric company says trouble is in house. should i wait before filing a claim on that, or is it ok to file 2 seperate claims at once? also, is there time limit or can i go back to when these problems started years ago? never filed a claim befor in my life. deductible is $1500.00.

"As for the electrical issues..."

If the pipe is inside the house, it's covered. Outside but still on the property? Maybe. If you've had to replace it several times, been told that tree roots are causing it, but haven't removed the trees? Not coverable. As for the electrical issues, how old is your house? If an older home, you may not be covered for something that is considered maintenence, like electrical work. Filing more than one claim? Talk to your insurance agent to find the best answer.

Q. Ripped off by car company-do i have a leg to stand on?
this is the situation. we bought our new car at the start of the year. after our test run of the car we told the car company that the boot wasn't staying up. they fixed that for us before we took it home. soon after we took it home the boot started unlocking itself. it is electronic, that is you open it with a button not a lever. we took it in and got it fixed. 5 days later it started popping again. we were going away and so didnt have time to take it in. then it happened sparatically, on and off for a while. we were meaning to take it back to get fixed. then my husband came home one day furious and told me, while he was driving, the boot unlocked itself and he was driving up a hill and the entire boot opened up! this is a ford wagon car so its a big boot. he was angry because our brand new (phil&ted) pram, worth $700 fell out and got run over. also our brand new porta cot fell out too (i was less worried about that) . we had only used the pram under 5 times, and we bought it as we were expecting our 2nd child. the pram fell out of the boot on a thursday and i gave birth to our 2nd child on the tuesday morning. so it was the worst timing. our pram was ruined and we barely used it. okay, so our car insurance wouldnt cover it, our house insurance wouldnt cover it. we called the car company (i wont name names even though i'd love to) and they said there's nothing they can do for us, but to bring the car back in to get repaired. the fixed it again and said they found a 5 cent piece in near the lock of the boot and said this could have been what is causing the problems so its not there fault, we cant prove anything etc. they said they replaced all the locks and everything. then not even a week later it started popping again. my husband called again and they said theres nothing they can do about our pram, wont take responsibility but said they'd fix it. so they did, and fixed the electrical part. okay so this time we thought it was fixed! but no! less than a week later it is popping again!!!!!!! i can't believe it its rediculous. so my husband called up fuming about this because they havent fixed it properly in the 3 times they've done it. he's trying to get some money out of them for our pram. because we are down $700, and in the mean time, with 2 kids we've had to buy a new pram! we aren't loaded with cash so this stung our bank account. my husband talked, then yelled and went on but the man from the car company wouldnt budge. he said to brng the car in and they'd need to keep it for a couple of days to fix it 'properly', whatever that means. its such a hassle, because i have to get a babysitter, then take 2 car seats, go drop the car in and pick up hire car then put car seats back in, then when the car is fixed i have to do this all over agian. its the biggest pain in the bum and the idiots wont take any responsibility!! do we have a case here? what do you think? is there any other avenue we can go to try and get some money out of these people? or should we drop it and let it go?? thanks for reading, i know it was long :)

"The engine cover is called a bonnet..."

You are all from europe and you have different names for things over there. Let me start by educating these people, a boot is the rear door or trunk lid, the engine cover is called a bonnet , and the top of the car is called the hood. After all that you have been through, forget about the dealer he is definitely not going to help you. Go over his head and contact Ford public relations and see if you can get anything from them. When you contact them have all of your documents in order so that you can give them details

Q. Lighting strike....questions?
ok couple mornings ago we were awake when all of a sudden lighting struck. very very loud. everthing in house went out lights, cable tv computer...etc. since then we have tv that do not work. computer comes on but does not connect to internet. plugs that do not work. called insurance agent who said well that is an electrical problem. any thoughts on this, is this something covered by insurance. we have a surge protector on on cable. our desktop does not work, but our laptop computers do work. so far this is what we know, my husband is concerened about the roof and feels like that needs to be checked out......thanks in advance for any suggestions. my computer does come on...everthing works but the internet. the buttons on the wireless modem are all on. all my laptops are working. 2 tvs upstatirs do not come on. i really afraid my insurance company will say nothing covered. just got that impression when i called them. what could happen to my roof?? thanks for all the responses

Surge protectors do not always protect. Even the guaranteed ones. My guess is that the strike fried the circuits that run your sound and Ethernet. They can be replaced if you know how, but I recommend just getting a new board for your computer. It is the cheapest fix and you won't have to buy a new computer.

Q. Is there anyone in columbus ohio that can help me?
i am 55 years old, disabled with early onset alzheimer's disease, seizures, panic disorder, degenerating disc disease in my back, plus a multitude of other ailments. i ask god all the time when i will be done down here. this life has been terrible for me and i don't want to do it anymore. they say he don't give you more than you can handle but, i can't handle this. does that mean that god is trying to push me to the limit? i left my house of 23 yrs back in feb. 09 to live with my sister when her husband died. i could only stand it for 4 months. the drugs and alcohol and all the emotional roller coaster ride thing drove me away. i told her i was leaving and it got violent. she has always been a very angry person and i have always been passive. she was beating on me and i did not hit her back. she had called her son and told him she wanted him to set me out, he came right over. he threw me to the floor and then a little later he tried to block her from coming at me again and hit her in the eye, she got up and he did it again. she called the police and they arrested me because she looked worse than i did. the charges were dismissed but still sit on my record. i had rented my house out to a family and their lease wasn't up until feb. 2010. they vacated on 02-05-10 and handed over the keys. i go into my house and literally everything was destroyed. there are mice, bed bugs, and roaches everywhere. the exterminator was quite costly but, it had to be done. the house i can handle. it will take time but, it is not anything i haven't done before. carpet ripped, heavily soiled by animals, dug up in places. all doors are ruined, wooden and storm doors. plumbing and fixtures in bathroom and kitchen are all non-functional or leaking. furnace won't stay running. they blew up my stove and threw it away without telling me anything. they left their stove and the electronics won't work, i think because of the roach crap on the circuit board. they broke parts of the refrigerator but, it does still work. it stinks to high heaven though. the microwave looks like they housed a gerbil in it and then blew it up in there. i haven't tried to see if it works. i had a new washer that i used maybe 5 times and a 1 yr old dryer and a dehumidifier in the basement. none of them work. the chimney looks like someone took a hammer to it. all the window blinds were obliterated and disgusting. the ceiling fans are heavily caked and dangling. all the telephone jacks in the house don't work. the technician said it looked like they had tried to hook something up and ruined it all. i wonder now if i am going to have electrical problems when i do move back in. leaving it is not an option as i am on soc. sec. disability and can't afford much. i get only $957 and the house payment is $640 and the rent on the little one bedroom apt, where i am at currently, is $475. oh god, what am i going to do. i am so overwhelmed and helpless. all i do is cry. is there anyone out there that wants to help? sbrobst143 at hotmail.com please somebody help me. if i could get the house back in order and have appliances that work i could recover and in 2 more months the house payment will drop down to $384. i don't know how i am going to pay this months house payment. the damages have soaked up all the money i have and it hasn't even started to look any better. please, please, please, somebody help me. i do have insurance with nationwide but, nothing not one thing is covered because, "the damage wasn't because of a natural occurrence like a lightening strike, flood, earth quake".their claims adjuster looked directly into my red, wet eyes and told me this without any expression at all. he said he would send me a letter of denial.
