Q. Can phone wiring cause fires?

hello friend Well buddy i do not think so phone wiring cause fires at home or in office. Phone wire do not carry high voltage current. These wires are bulit to carry a very low rate of current to listen the voice call. So i do not think that the phone wire causes fire. I hope this will be answer of your question. Have a good day

Q. Does old wiring go bad?

Old wiring can go bad depending on how old the wire is and where it is put. If it is a wire inside of the houses roof or in walls it may last a long time and will not easilly go bad. Wires can be bitten in the roof by rats but other than that old wires don`t go bad that quickly inside of a house. Outside of a house wires can easilly go bad depending on how protected the wires are and if they are in pvc pipes. Brian Lawson

Q. I have a bad habit of biting on the head phone wire. is it bad? if so how can i stop? have you done this?
i have a bad habit of biting on the head phone wire. is it bad? if so how can i stop? have you done this?

You, and most of my students over the years. Biting on headphone wires will eventually break the wires and ruin the headphones. I'm not sure how much "juice" runs through headphone wires, but if you've ever seen a picture of a child who was shocked by biting through an electrical cord, you would stop biting your headphone wires. Even if it isn't enough "juice" to kill you, it will cause a deep burn and a nasty scar across your lips. Search for an image of "electrical cord injury" if you're curious!

Q. How can i get bt to fix my phone wiring? part two?
hi again, and thanks for your response leedslad. i emailed those details off to be (my isp) and quoted you directly - hope you don't mind :). this was their response; thank you for your update. while performing the troubleshooting we have detected that your speed is being reduced when you use the test socket, behind your front plate. this is quite unusual, because what the test socket does, is to disable all of the internal wiring at the premises. there you should have the clearest signal from bt, and your speed should be actually increased. if the speed has been reduced, this means that the attenuation has been increased. such changing of the attenuation is probably caused by bad internal wiring, since you are making changes only at the premises. if for some reason your socket is not connected correctly, you will definitely experiencing issues with the speed and the reliability of the connection. please note that we are using the bt phone line to provide you with service. if the bt phone line is not correctly connected at the premises, we cannot do anything about it. we cannot send request to bt/openreach to check it, because they are not dealing with such cases. they are dealing only with the equipment at the exchange and the telephone line outside the premises. as we have ran several tests with our equipment, we have checked its health and it is working fine. the only component that has left to be checked is your telephone socket and internal wiring. i have noticed that there were quite a lot disconnections on the line and i have switched your noise margin profile to the default one. you will now have more reliable connection. i'm stumped as to who i should go to now, as 1) the line is still disconnecting and 2) i never had any disconnections when i was with a different isp. any further advice??

Some of the answers they have given are incorrect and others are lies! I will answer them in order. 1) They are suggesting you have a main socket ( an NTE5a) this is incorrect as your house is star wired, star wired means as you described originally the line comes in and them splits off to more than one socket, no NTE5a to start with, this is usually the main reason for poor or no ADSL. 2) Yes they are using the BT/Openreach line to provide you with service and they can't do anything about this BUT to send a BT/Openreach engineer! As we own and maintain the network. However they can request an ADSL healthcheck which will mean we come to your house to get your wiring to standard and get your ADSL working, WE DO DEAL WITH SUCH CASES!! It's our job! We deal with ALL your line internal and external. 3) They may have run tests on their equipment but if it's not working at your house, they are in breach of contract. This will be a remote test, they are never conclusive, if anything they will request that the wiring is correct in the exchange, the exchange staff are unable to test if data is leaving the exchange, this requires an ADSL trained engineer who will test your line end to end. 4) To give you a more stable connection they have dropped your speed, but if you are receiving nothing it's an issue. 5) Your new ISP has their own equipment in our exchange and there obviously is an issue with it, Talk-Talk had a lot of issues when they first started with their equipment, there are now less issues as they are understanding ADSL more. Tell your ISP you want an ADSL health check, this costs them money not you!! This is why they don't like doing it. If they refuse leave them and go elsewhere. We always respond to a request from anyone to check phone wiring and we have always dealt with such cases, but it is chargeable. I hope this helps, if you still are having problems come back to me and I will try to help, just curious who is your ISP? Good luck.

Q. My xbox 360 head set cuts in and out like a cell phone with a bad connection?
i recently moved the entertainment center to the basement and now i'm having serious problems with the audio connection on my headset. i'm thinking that it's not a coincidence that i also have very bad cell reception in the same area. i do have the old wired headset so i'm wondering if i plug the controller directly into the 360 will that eliminate this problem

Hmmm, it sounds like you are getting interference from all the bugs the government has put in your basement. Better put on your tin foil hat (so they don't hear your thoughts of course) and move everything back up stairs. Keep an eye out for the men in black suits.

Q. Can the phone wiring be affected by a scorpion infestation?
oh yes, my life is now like a bad cowboy song. after ten years in my home, it has scorpions in it (i suspected they were coming as they are in other neighbors' homes who do not have pest control service). since (1) i found two crawling up my bedroom wall by my nightstand, and (2) a neighbor got bit by one in her bed and has a numb foot, and (3) i am terrified of these things----- i have temporarily moved out and am staying at my daughter's home until i resolve this. i had a new pest control service spray on tuesday. supposedly they specialize in scorpions. yesterday i called my home for messages and discovered the phone line isn't working. i went to my home (ever so carefully) and saw the phone line was dead. (i have a credit on my phone account so i am well paid up). can insects or prehistoric-monster scorpions eat through wiring? just curious. share your thoughts and i'll check them whiile i'm getting drunk tonight.

Anything that breaks the contacts or wires can cause phone outages.

Q. Why does my dsl connection cut out when i use the phone from an unfiltered jack?
i have dsl, and get my online internet connection via my local phone provider. i use a filter for my phone- i tried using a different phone jack in my apt, but notice when i do that, it disrupts my internet connection- and i get mainly static after a few seconds from that jack- will a filter fix all that, or is it bad wiring?

every phone jack in your house except the one that connect to your modem/router must have a filter on it. if you have two way splitter coming out of the wall jack the one that goes to your phone needs a filter, but the one that goes to you modem does not. any jack hooked to a telephone or and answering machine or fax machine must have a filter one it . good luck :0)

Q. Are cordless landline phones bad for you too?
i have a 1.8 ghz digital one. if it is bad, is it only bad for me while taking the phone call? should i switch back to the old style with wires?

All cordless land lines are safe, they don't receive signals like cell phones do. It's just a signal from the base to your phone. Same as a wireless modem to another cpu. So don't worry, there's more things out there that can kill you in the food and beverage dept.

Q. Phone line problem - help? a lightning surge caused two phone jacks to fail.?
i have three phone jacks...let's call 'em a, b, and c. i know that a thunderstorm caused my phone problems. i know that the phone co checked the lines and it's not an outside problem. i know that my 3 telephones work. the day of the storm i came home and no phone worked. i unplugged all phones and dsl. tested jack a first. it worked. tried jack b and it didn't work. tried jack c and it didn't work. i later changed phones and got jack b to work. but now jack a doesn't work. i tried replacing the phone jack on jack a...no luck still doesn't work. jack c has never once worked. not even bothering w/ that one until i can get jack a working. can the phone wire be bad? must i replace the whole wire? or can i just use another "pair"? my phone wire has the following colors pairs: orange pair, green pair, purple pair, and blue pair. orange pair is hooked to my jack now. what pair is supposed to be used? connect to what colors on the jack? i appreciate help

as long as the same color is connected on both ends of the phone wiring, it shouldnt matter... the proper color code is : line 1 blue/white line 2 orange/white line 3 green/white line 4 brown/white line 5 slate (gray)/white line 6 blue/red there is no purple. there is a voilet color, but you wouldnt see that color unless you were working with a 25 pair cable, or larger... the lightning fried the inside of one of your phones, or other equiptment inside your home.. lightning will not affect a jack, a surge will destroy the electronics inside phones, fax machines, modems, and satellite boxes.. one at a time plug each phone into a known working jack .. then with another line, or cell phone call into your line, because not only will a lightning surge cause a ROH (short) on your line causing no dial tone, but it can also cause a CBC (pre-trip) where your phone will only ring 1 or 2 times then disconnect...

Q. Is it a bad idea to offer email addresses of references rather than phone numbers?
for upcoming interviews, i've inevitably been asked for references and have offered email addresses rather than phone numbers. (this is particularly because my references include a teacher and an administrator from an urban school, and if you're familiar with the likes of them, they're quite wired.) do you think companies frown upon such practice?

Why not include both? I think most companies would prefer to phone, since they can usually speak with the person quickly, and if an answer to their question isn't clear, they can follow up right then. With an email, if the answer isn't quite what they were looking for, they'd have to send another email and wait for another reply.

Q. Why do i hear dialing when i'm talking on the house phone?
when i'm talking on the house phone, every 25 seconds or so, i will hear dialing. the phone company says it's the wires in my house. i've tried each phone by itself (with the others unplugged), hoping it's a bad phone but i have the same problem with all the phones (both corded phones and cordless phones). i plugged a phone into the outside box and did not hear the dialing. does anyone have any idea what can be causing this? thanks.

It's called Crosstalk.

Q. Is it a landlord's responsibility to provide a working phone line?
hello, i rent an apartment in a house. my phone line went bad. the phone company said it was an old line and that the wiring inside the house would have to be replaced. my landlord says i must pay for the repairs. is it my landlord's responsibility to provide a working phone line to my apartment? i live in pennsylvania, philadelphia area

Depends on the contract you signed. I'd suggest you read it again. My feeling is that the landlord is responsible for it. But I don't know for sure.
