There is nothing anyone can do for you that you cannot do for yourself. Start by calling all your creditors and explain the situation to them. Work out a repayment plan to keep them off your back. The problem is usually if you desperately need a loan you can't get it (except at extremely unfavorable rates) and if you don't need a loan you can easily get all you need. It's not fair, but life is not fair.

My school doesn't offer federal loans how do i get financial help? i am a single mom who really needs to get back on my feet i work 40hrs a week for nothing and every pay period i feel like it's just getting worse. i need to go to school to get a better job but with the stress of raising a 18 month old on my own and trying to provide for her is wearing me thin. i don't have the credit to apply for any type of loan and financial aid just isn't enough when that is used for school and supplys. is there something out there for me remember bad credit?
Their are federal grants out there available for adults looking to further their education, and some states have ways of getting training through the Department of Human Services.

College financial aid help? i dropped the ball and filed my fafsa after the deadlines for the colleges i applied to (uc santa cruz & uc berkeley), because i thought i had to wait to see whether or not i was accepted. i've been accepted to both schools, but just received my financial aid offer that's completely loan offers only, no grant money at all. i don't know if this is because i filed too late and all the grant money is depleted, or because i don't qualify for any money (my parents income is over $100,000). what other ways do i have of getting grant or scholarship money to help me pay for college? i can't possibly take out loans for the entire amount... i'd be in debt for the rest of my life! please help!
That income is high and grant max limits aren't, so your parents income is probably why. You didn't miss the deadline, you missed the priority deadline, so the funds wouldn't have been depleted, you just aren't eligible. Go to FastWeb.com and do a scholarship search. Also, go to or call the Financial Aid Office and see if they can help you. If not, you can take out the loans or go to a less expensive school, at least for the gen eds, which are the same everywhere.

I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything else. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.
The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a 'humanity based' business and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.
You'll need to register the business and look into perhaps non-profit status with your state controller's office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

Q. What are the risks associated to an unsecured small business loan? i am working on starting a small business soon. i am financing a big chunk myself but need a small business loan for more than half of the start-up cost.
i have been told by different professionals out there that with my age, credit score, and years of established credit i would easily qualify for an unsecured business loan, meaning that i don't have to put my house and other assets on the line. this is obviously a huge benefit, but aside from an apr higher than one on a secured loan, and expensive loan fees, what are the risks and downsides of an unsecured loan? also, do you know of any financial company who offer such loans fee-free?

The biggest loop hole with unsecured loans is they will usually ask you to sign a PG - Personl Gaurantee. This means that even if the business folds you still owe the money.
This loophole is outside of the usual 'Limited Liability' so my advice is NEVER sign a PG in your life.
I got stung in one of my previous businesses by a partner and 4 years later I am still paying back the money even though the company doesn't exist anymore. Since then I have made a stand and refused to sign one and it's amazing how many businesses will be happy to put a line through it.
The issue for you is which is it going to be? No one will lend you money with no gaurantee of getting it back - would you? If you that sure of your business plan and financial projections then I suggest you back yourself and get on with the business.
