Q. How do i send an aerial signal wirelessly across the house?
we have the aerial signal coming into the front room, and a wire underneath the house taking into the bedroom. we've set up a new tv now in the spare room, and wondered if the technology exists to send the signal wirelessly, instead of having to thread another wire underneath the house. we're in the uk and currently using a freeview box, but i would consider getting freesat instead.

Could you use something like this? http://www.aitech.com/products/wirelesscabletv.htm

Q. Some questions about having insulation blown into the walls of my 70 year old house?
i keep hearing issues with settling...if i ensure the contractors blow in the proper density is that still a problem? will having this done affect having the house re-wired or a plumbing upgrade in the future? i have real wood siding on the exterior. can it be patched so it is not noticeable? over all ....do you think it is worth it when you consider the heating/cooling savings and the tax credit? i live in the midwest where the winters are cold and the summers are hot.

oh boy, i'm going to have a tough time blowing insulation. what if it gets caught in my throat?

Q. Do house electric wires harm your health?
i've been changing out lights, switches and electric plugs and a few times neglected to turn off the circuit breakers. i've been zapped a handful of times and it hurts but i'm curious if the amount of electricity causes any serious or long term damage. please don't respond with moronic answers such as, of course its bad for you its electricity or that it can kills you (though if it can i'd like to know that). consider that i've already been zapped a few times so i'm asking what long term damage might have been done to me under these circumstances. thanks!

"Offence to work on domestic and commercial wiring without qualifications..."

If you are fit there should no lasting effect. but you do take your life in your hands when you are taking belts of electricity, if water or wet is involved it can and will probably kill. you no doubt have survived and that's good, but you have the electricity switched off and isolated, when working on it. In the UK it is now a criminal offence to work on domestic and commercial wiring without qualifications , you need to be an Electrician, I still do my own but I isolate first. Be Safe, and Good Luck!

Q. Are perimeter fence & barbed wire enough security for home in south africa?
i just moved to norwood, south africa (outside of johannesburg) from houston, usa. i purchased a 2-storey house that came with a perimeter fence and barbed wire along the top, but considering the high crime in the country, do you think it will be enough? should i spring for a cctv system or something?

No ,unfortunately it is not enough . A good size energizer would help too . Remember ,whatever you do it is merely a time-delaying factor ! If they want in ,trust me they will ! CCTV are inexpensive and a good idea .I like the wireless infra-red parameters which is also ''pet active'' . You can hardly see them and let's you know if the intruders are still on the outside !

Q. What are tax consequ. if i wire money from my us bank to overseas for realestate purchase?
i want to buy a house so when i live there sometimes, after i retire, do i have to consider tax and any forms i need to file when i do the transaction? i guess if i sell the house for a profit, then there are tax consequences from uncle sam. of course, since it's become an investment? , heh?

you want to buy a home in another country? not a problem however, if and when you sell it, as a US citizen you would be taxed on any gain you made on the sale

Q. Considering buying a painted stucco house. the paint is chipping. what is the best way to restore it?
for paint removal, i've heard chemicals can damage the plant life/grass and i wonder if wire brushing will make it look worse. also, i wonder what it'll look like after removing the paint (if it'll need to be repainted again).

Pressure wash the walls with at least a 2600 psi machine and use an oscillating tip to enhance the removal of old paint. Apply Seal-Crete to the entire surface as it will not only be a good waterproofing sealer for bare masonry, it'll stop chalking, if any, and aid in adhesion of your new coating. (chalking is evident if you rub your hand across and area of the wall and your palm has a white chalky type residue.) Now I will advise you to paint your stucco with an elastomeric paint which is best for masonry applications; just do not use elastomeric coatings on any wood. Where to buy your paints? Stay away from Behr Brand which is featured and sold at Home Depot. Behr is expensive in respect to it's poor coverage, thus it's very labor intensive. Lowe's has an American-Tradition line by Valspar which is a better choice in my personal & professional opinion. If you need any further help don't hesitate to ask. Q. I just moved into this house that has 100's pigeons living in and around it. how can i get rid of them?
they have tried numerous things already putting up chicken wire along the eaves. placing these pin looking things along ledges etc. so they cant land. i know about pellet guns already : ) i am not some animal rights activist..>meaning> i will consider all sugestions, humane or inhumane.> meaning these things are totally and utterly digusting and we cannot live in harmony together on this property. meaning> they must go !!

Try the owls, they work! The major problem with poisons to get rid of pigeons is that the other birds will eat it too. I've seen appartment complex grounds and parking lots covered with dead and dieing grackles, sparrows, cardnals, blue jays and others as well as the pesky pigeons. They don't die quickly and its a disturbing sight. Also the poisons can wash into nearby water ways and poison fish and other wildlife as well as dogs, cats and any livestock that could have access. It might help to also make sure that you repair or cover where ever they are nesting and don't allow any food to be put out for them, or it will be harder to get rid of them.
