Best irons for a beginner golfer? i have my fw woods picked out, holding on the driver till later, but looking at a few sets of irons here. got these 4 recommendations from different sources, and got to swing the tommy armour's and i liked how they felt, nice balanced weight to them, but didn't hit any balls with them. was told the callaways would be more forgiving clubs and the ping or tommy armours would be better clubs to learn on as the callaways would hide some mistakes? what's your take? ping eye 2 tommy armour 845s callaway great big bertha tungsten-titanium (ebay) callaway hawk eye vft (ebay) so i went to golfsmith and was helped but stuart who was awesome. i hit taylormade burner irons, callaway x-20, and i forget what model cleveland and an adams iron from a complete package. now the taylormades where the best feeling club and i hit much more consistantly with them, but can i justify spending $770.00 incl. ca state taxes, on just the irons as a beginner? ended up getting ta 845s irons, i was able to hit them with some consistancy, but the inconsistancy was more in my swing rather than the club. and picked em up for $75 3-pw. thanks for your answers guys. Which ones should i get? 1) ok i went to golf galaxy the other day, and hit a lot of different irons. i hit all of them pretty much the same distance, the callaways were a little longer than the est of them. i hit the nike full cavity victory reds, titleist ap1's, ping g10's, and the callaway x-22's. with accuracy they were pretty much the same but the nikes were best in that catagory, and the titleist ap1's were worst. so which ones should i pick. 2) i am also gonna get a new driver pretty soon, any suggestions. 3) my vokey 56 degree is getting old so im also going to get a new wedge, which would you pick. thanks "As for your driver you pretty much can't go wrong..." I would strongly recommend the PING G10s for your irons they are a good blend of performance and forgiveness. As for your driver you pretty much can't go wrong with the PING G10 driver to match those new irons and don't forget to go through the fitting process it's free as are adjustments from PING for as long as you own your clubs. Why not replace that Vokey wedge with a new one from Vokey sounds like you've enjoyed your last one and the Vokey wedges can't be beat.
