Try looking in little independent Chinese supermarkets as well; they'll do all the kit - seaweed, rice, rice vinegar, bamboo mat for rolling. Also, Lakeland do a sushi press - enables you to make shaped sushi, including heart shaped (ahhhhh!) Not a store in Leeds, but one in Harrogate.

Yes I have made my own Sushi often and found it to be fun, but yes, it does require practice and I am certainly no Master yet. I think the trick is getting the right KIND of rice to make "sticky rice" with the rice vinegar, and then rolling it at the correct temperature and thickness. I often err in the area of not spreading the rice thinly enough over the Nori seaweed so my rolls end up sizing more in the category of a salami sausage which when cut into bite sizes, often fall apart when handled with chop sticks. I try to introduce others to Sushi which is sometimes fun, and oftentimes frustrating. To many, the concept of eating raw fish is just too much, so I like experimenting with different vegetable-only sushi recipes or I just use the Louis Kemp Lobster Delights or Crab Delights (made from Alaskan cod) which are fully cooked and work well for California Rolls. Make sure the fish you're buying from the farmer's market is sushi-grade, if not, you could get very sick. Fish prepared for cooking and fish prepared for sushi will be handled much differently, and have different store-shelf lives. The best option is to commandeer a boat from a wretched fisherman and attempt to pirate onto a Japanese sushi-boat in the deep blue sea. Make sure you bring your Sword of 1000 Truths or it may prove to be overwhelming.
