Some webcams come with a microphone attached but then again some do not. If you get one with good resolution, then it probably will have a microphone.
Microphones don't cost much anyway so don't worry.

I got me the best computer money can buy. webcam doesnt work with messenger, cant access yahoo email. why? i just got me the best computer on the market - everything works, digitaltv monitor, surround sound, webcam on any other service, etc, etc, - except when i try and do anything on any of yahoo's services. whats happening? webcam - get message - 'webcam not connected' - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. try to access email - doesn't work - have to go through google to get yahoo mail. i thought yahoo were the best - now i got an idea why microsoft won't buy them! if any yahoo technicians out there - plse explain to me in simple terms, how to get my yahoo working like it did one month ago when i was on my old windows me edition pentium 2 antique machine. i had no problems then! (until you screwed up new look mail)
Set up and use Windows Mail, better than struggling with Yahoo mail.

You could always go to any Best Buy store and ask for any webcam that is compatible with your current operating system.
The good brands are Logitech and Microsoft.
You could also visit Radioshack. There is a good cheap Gigaware webcam there for about $29 USD.
Remember to always ask if the webcam is compatible with your operating system (Windows XP/Vista, Linux, Mac, etc.)

You should have a headphone with microphone to hear and speak over the net. webcam+headphone+microphone is perfect to make voice or video chat on skype. you won't be needing anything more. download skype from http://www.skype.com/go/downloading for free, install it and use the feature u want
